When is the Southampton International Boat Show?
The Southampton International Boat Show takes place every September at Mayflower Park.
The 2026 Southampton Boat Show runs from Friday 18 September to Sunday 27 September.
The show usually runs for 10 days and opens daily from 10am.
If you’re planning to stay in Southampton during the event, it’s worth booking ahead. The Boat Show brings a lot of additional visitors into the city, particularly over the weekends, and accommodation can get busy.

Where is the Southampton Boat Show?
The Southampton International Boat Show takes place at:
Mayflower Park Southampton SO15 2AS
Mayflower Park sits directly on Southampton Water, close to the Old Town, Town Quay and Southampton city centre.
The location is a big part of what makes the show work so well.
This isn’t simply an exhibition hall with boats sitting on stands. A large part of the event takes place around the waterfront and show marina, with hundreds of boats on the water.
What can you see at the Southampton Boat Show?
Quite a lot.
And you certainly don’t need to be shopping for a new yacht to enjoy yourself.
The show brings together hundreds of marine brands covering sailing boats, motorboats, engines, marine technology, equipment, chandlery and watersports.
The marina is one of the main attractions. You can expect everything from smaller boats and sailing yachts through to large motorboats and some seriously expensive kit.
If you’re actually looking to buy a boat, having so many manufacturers and dealers together is obviously useful. You can compare different models without spending months travelling between dealers and marinas.
If you’re not buying anything, it’s still a good day by the water.
Can you get out on the water?
Yes, and this is one of the things that separates the Southampton Boat Show from simply walking around an indoor exhibition.
The programme usually includes interactive watersports, demonstrations and opportunities to get onto the water.
Exactly what’s available changes from year to year, so check the current programme before your visit if there’s something you particularly want to try.
Some activities may also have limited spaces or require advance booking.
Is the Southampton Boat Show good for families?
Yes. It isn’t only aimed at serious boat buyers and people who can talk about marine engines for several hours without stopping.
There are boats to explore, demonstrations, watersports, entertainment and plenty happening around the show site.
Family activities and ticket offers can change between events, so check the current ticket information before you go.
If you’re bringing younger children, give yourself plenty of time rather than attempting to march everyone around the entire show in two hours.
There’s a lot of ground to cover.
Food, drink and entertainment
You can easily spend most of the day at the Boat Show.
Alongside the boats and marine exhibitors, there are places to eat and drink as well as entertainment around the event.
That’s useful if you’re travelling with someone whose enthusiasm for outboard motors lasts about 20 minutes.
Stop for something to eat, wander around the marina, see what’s happening on the water and make a proper day of it.
How long do you need at the Southampton Boat Show?
We’d allow most of the day.
There are a lot of exhibitors and boats to see, particularly if you’re genuinely interested in boating.
If you’re coming to look at a particular boat or speak to manufacturers, check the exhibitor list before you arrive and work out who you want to see.
Otherwise, it’s very easy to spend several hours wandering around only to realise the stand you actually wanted was at the other end of the show.
If you’re visiting mainly for a day out, you can take things at a much slower pace.
People buying boats or working in the marine industry could easily justify more than one day at the show.
How do you get to the Southampton Boat Show by train?
Southampton Central is the main railway station for the city.
Direct trains connect Southampton with London, Winchester, Bournemouth and numerous other towns and cities across the south.
From Southampton Central, Mayflower Park is on the waterfront on the other side of the city centre.
You can walk if you’re travelling light and don’t mind carrying your things across town. Otherwise, a taxi from Southampton Central is the easiest way to finish the journey.
If you’re staying in Southampton for the weekend, you may not need your car at all. Mayflower Park, the Old Town, Westquay and much of the city centre are close enough to explore on foot.
Can you make a weekend of the Southampton Boat Show?
Definitely.
In fact, if you’re travelling any distance, we’d choose this over trying to squeeze the show and two long journeys into the same day.
Stay for a couple of nights and you can give the Boat Show a full day without spending the last few hours checking your watch because you’ve got a train to catch.
You’ll also have time to see some of Southampton.
The Old Town and medieval walls are close to Mayflower Park, while Westquay is nearby for shopping. Ocean Village is a good option for an evening walk, dinner or a drink by the marina.
If you’re staying for longer, Winchester and the New Forest are both within easy reach.
What else can you do in Southampton during the Boat Show?
Don’t travel all the way to Southampton and only see Mayflower Park.
The Bargate, Old Town and medieval walls are all easy additions to a weekend in the city and don’t require a long journey from the Boat Show.
You could also walk towards Ocean Village, explore the waterfront or spend some time around the city centre.

Where to eat during Southampton Boat Show weekend
You’ll find food and drink inside the show, but if you’re staying overnight we’d head into Southampton for dinner.
Ocean Village is an obvious choice if you haven’t quite had enough of boats. There are several restaurants around the marina and it’s a nice place for an evening walk afterwards.
Oxford Street and the Old Town have plenty of restaurants and bars and are convenient for the waterfront.
Westquay and the city centre give you the biggest range of options if you’re travelling with a family or group.
And if you’ve seen enough boats for one day, Bedford Place has pubs, restaurants and bars away from the waterfront.

Where to stay for the Southampton Boat Show
Accommodation in Southampton gets busy around the International Boat Show, so this isn’t an event we’d leave until the last minute.
Settle Southampton is at 22 Howard Road, giving you a comfortable base for the Boat Show without staying right on top of Mayflower Park.
We have rooms, studios and a two-bedroom apartment, so there are options whether you’re coming alone, as a couple, with family or for work.
If you’re staying for several nights, the studios are particularly handy because you have your own self-catering facilities.
That means you don’t have to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner out every day — something that starts to become quite appealing after a few days away.
There’s self check-in too, so arriving on a later train doesn’t mean worrying about making it to a reception desk before it closes.
Working at the Southampton Boat Show?
Not everyone coming to Southampton during Boat Show week is here for a day out.
The event brings marine businesses, exhibitors, sales teams, suppliers and contractors into the city, many of whom stay for several days or for the full show.
If you’re working the event, what you need from accommodation can be quite different from someone coming down for Saturday afternoon.
A week or more in a standard hotel room can get old fairly quickly.
A studio gives you somewhere more practical to come back to at the end of the day, along with self-catering facilities when you don’t fancy another restaurant meal.

Tips for visiting the Southampton Boat Show
Book accommodation early. Hotels and other accommodation in Southampton can get busy during the show, particularly over the weekends.

Check the programme. Demonstrations, talks, activities and exhibitors change, so have a look before you arrive if there’s something you don’t want to miss.
Wear comfortable shoes. You’ll do a surprising amount of walking.
Allow most of the day. There’s little point paying to get in and then racing around the show because you need to leave two hours later.
Consider staying overnight. If you’re travelling a long way, a full day at the Boat Show followed by dinner and a comfortable bed is considerably more appealing than finishing the day with a long journey home.
Is the Southampton International Boat Show worth visiting?
If you have any interest in boats, sailing or watersports, yes.
It’s one of the biggest events of its kind in the UK and the waterfront setting makes it feel very different from a conventional exhibition.
But you don’t need to be buying a boat to have a good day.
There’s enough happening around the marina, on the water and across the show site to make it an enjoyable Southampton day out in its own right.
