WALKS & COUNTRYSIDE
You can go from central Winchester to open countryside remarkably quickly.
Follow the River Itchen through the water meadows towards St Cross, head up St Catherine’s Hill for views back across the city or explore Winnall Moors if you want something shorter.
Winchester is also the western starting point of the South Downs Way, making the city an excellent base if walking is one of the reasons you’re visiting Hampshire.

Good to know before you stay
PARKING IN WINCHESTER
Settle Winchester doesn’t have private on-site parking, but there are several public parking options around the city.
Tower Street Car Park, Chesil Street Multi-Storey and Cattle Market Car Park are among the options available in Winchester.
The city also has Park & Ride services, which can be particularly useful if you don’t plan to use your car during your stay.
Once you’ve arrived, you may find you don’t need it much anyway. Settle is around a 10–15 minute walk from central Winchester, and many of the city’s main sights, restaurants, pubs and shops can be reached on foot.

We’re also on St Cross Road, one of the main routes into Winchester. It makes walking into the city particularly convenient, although you may hear passing traffic at busier times.
GETTING TO WINCHESTER
Winchester is well connected by both road and rail.
Direct trains connect Winchester with London Waterloo and Southampton, making the city easy to visit without a car.
If you’re driving, Winchester is just off the M3, with public car parks and Park & Ride options around the city.
Once you arrive, the compact centre means walking is often the easiest way to get around.
