One of the nicest things about Southampton is the amount of green space sitting right alongside the city.
The Central Parks run through the heart of Southampton, so you don’t have to go far to escape the shops and traffic. Palmerston Park and East Park are both right in the centre.
For more space, head to Southampton Common. It’s one of the city’s biggest green spaces and a good option for a walk, run or simply getting outside.
Closer to the water, Mayflower Park gives you views across Southampton Water and the port.
VISITING SOUTHAMPTON FOR PLEASURE
Southampton works well for a short break because you can fit quite a lot into a couple of days without spending half your time travelling between places.
Explore the Old Town and medieval walls, visit SeaCity Museum, wander down towards the waterfront and stop somewhere for dinner.
Westquay and the surrounding city centre cover the shopping, while Southampton’s Cultural Quarter brings together galleries, theatre and live entertainment.

One of the advantages of staying in Southampton is what’s around it.
Winchester is a short direct train journey away, making it an easy day trip for its cathedral, historic streets, independent shops and restaurants.

For families, Paultons Park and Peppa Pig World are just outside Southampton and make an easy day out with younger children.
